With the help of the St Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre and with the cooperation of the Clark McDougall Estate, the St Thomas Downtown Development Board has selected 6 different sketches from the Clark McDougall, Tisdale Farm Series and have printed 80 – double sided 2′ x 4′ banners.
15 banners, along with acrylic paints and brushes were distributed to each of the 4 St Thomas High Schools – St Joseph’s, Parkside, Central and Arthur Voaden and 20 to the St Thomas Art Guild for painting. No set pattern was stipulated, the artists were able to express their own interpretation.
On Sunday June 7, 2015 the 80 banners were installed on the downtown lamp poles and they will remain in place until Labour Day.
The DDB created this program in partnership with the STEPAC, the ArtistGuild and the 4 High Schools to raise awareness of the cultural significance of our local art collection and to get the community involved in our downtown as well as to help promote our downtown.
It’s anticipated that the students families and friends will travel from far and wide to visit downtown St Thomas to admire this amazing artistic display.
So please take a moment to view the wonderful artistic display on your next visit to downtown St Thomas.
