Established in 1957 the St. Thomas EDC is one of the most experienced development organizations of its kind in Canada.

The Economic Development Corporation promotes St. Thomas as an attractive location in which to build new ideas by assisting both existing and prospective businesses in the actual process of choosing a location, growing in the community, securing government funding and entering the local market.

In 2013, the city decided it was time to increase tourism services that would be available year-round. This sparked the creation of Railway City Tourism, St. Thomas’s own service organization dedicated solely to providing information, creating and marketing local events, working with tour groups to engage visitors and keeping people informed of opportunities in the community.

The INN is a 24/7 shelter that provides safety, support, and solutions to individuals 16 and over who are experiencing homelessness in St Thomas and Elgin County. We believe that everyone deserves a place to call home and a chance to live with dignity and hope.

Ignite strives to provide an environment and opportunities that will spark and support our Youth’s passion to learn, grow, explore, be creative, be themselves, ask questions, become part of our Community and spark change in our Community.

Ignite is fun, supportive and inclusive. We offer age appropriate activities, programs and opportunities for all Youth in a wide array of areas such as recreation, leadership, arts and culture, education, prevention and awareness, and volunteering in an accessible environment.

Ignite supports and encourages Youth to aim high and achieve their goals. We support our Youth in becoming active and responsible participants in our Community. To help be successful in this, we are partners with a number of key organizations throughout St. Thomas and Elgin such as the YWCA, CMHA, F&CS, Public Health and TVDSB.

Employment Services Elgin delivers a variety of provincial Employment Services programs for the residents of Elgin County with offices in St. Thomas, West Lorne and Aylmer, that assist people in finding employment through employment counselling, employment workshops, and job placements; provide an Information and Referral service which provides clients with links to various to internal and external resources; coach clients in accessing resources and technology available in the Resource Centre; and, deliver assistance to students seeking summer employment.

The Small Business Enterprise Centre is part of a long standing provincial program network to deliver support for start-up entrepreneurs and existing business owners.

Elgin/St. Thomas was the 57th Small Business Enterprise Centre to be established in 2010, in response to meeting our need.

As a division of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation, we continue to support our community by providing confidential, no-cost business assistance, training events, mentorship and grant programs, courtesy of the province of Ontario, Elgin County & the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation.
