Art in the Park

This Saturday we had another successful Art in the Park event! There were ten artists at the event with different mediums from clay, paint and beads to fabric and stamps that they used to create their art. The band Shugg and the Temps performed throughout the event and children were encouraged to play along with the band using instruments that they made at the free crafts center.

The weather was great and everybody had a wonderful time! The next Art in the Park event is on August 11 in Station Parkette from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. We hope to see you there!

July means many things to many people. To some, it’s celebrating the “birth” of our nation. To others, it means sitting back and relaxing. To many people in Southwestern Ontario, it means festivals (much like the Home County Folk Festival held in London, Ontario from July 20 to July 22!) In honour of all of these things, the Adult Department decided to show a hilarious “mockumentary” movie starring (and co-written!) by Canadians, free of discussion after the show and with free admission.

When folk icon Irving Steinbloom passed away, he left behind a legacy of music and a family of performers he has shepherded to folk stardom. To celebrate a life spent submerged in folk, Irving’s loving son Jonathan has decided to put together a memorial concert featuring some of Steinbloom’s best-loved musicians. There’s Mitch and Mickey, who were the epitome of young love until their partnership was torn apart by heartbreak; classic troubadours The Folksmen, whose records were endlessly entertaining for anyone able to punch a hole in the center to play them; and The New Main Street Singers, the most meticulously color-coordinated neuftet ever to hit an amusement park. Now for one night only in New York City’s Town Hall, these three groups will reunite and gather together to celebrate the music that almost made them famous.

WINDOWS OF CHRISTMAS

The Downtown merchants would like to thank the public for their support over the Christmas Holiday. The idea of “Buy Local” has helped many of our merchants. We would like to thank all of the Stores for decorating the windows for the holiday season. The theme this year was “A WHITE CHRISTMAS”. The snowflakes, snowflake banners and wreathes were just the touch to create a festive mood in the Downtown area. The DDB would like to thank the City of St. Thomas Parks Department, HIRA, St. Thomas Canadian Tire, and St. Thomas Energy for making our downtown so beautiful.
