Business of the Week – Sherrys Fashions

Sherry ChambersSherry Chambers has participated in a rather diverse background of occupations. From a fourteen-year period of driving tractor trailers, owning a business at the Flying M Truck Stop, to opening her own restaurant on Talbot Street for a time, it has all led to owning and operating Sherry’s Gifts located at 567 Talbot St for the past eleven years. The business opportunity has allowed Chambers to combine her love of talking to people with a strong interest in women’s fashion and accessories. “My goal has always been to run a shop that I could afford to buy from”, she adds while also staying true to her mission statement to provide shopping for the unique woman.

Sherry’s Gifts offers clothing from Fashions by Red Coral and introducing Kim and Co. Fashions that range from sizes S through XXXL. Hats, purses, Jaqueline Kent jewelry, scarves, and gift items are also on display inside. For further information, you can check out her Facebook Page, titled “Sherry’s Fashions and Accessories”, or visit the store in person Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 5:30pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm when she’d be happy to assist you. Once you’re engaged in conversation with her, you’ll be quick to see her zest for the downtown also shine through.

More Flower Boxes for Our Downtown

Shown Above: Dan Muscat, Sandy & Dave Flay plus their grandson, Aurora Rodriguez and Earl Taylor placing 19 more flower boxes on Talbot Street in the rain on Sunday morning – adding to the 50 boxes we installed 3 weeks ago.

Thank you to the Arthur Voaden students who built us these lovely flower boxes.  We would also like to thank Home Hardware for the discount on our materials.  After the boxes were built we planted them with the flowers shown above as well as on Facebook at Vermeer Flowers.

Home and Garden Show 2012

The 2011 St. Thomas Home, Garden and Outdoor Living Show held at the Timken Centre this past spring was a huge success.  The 2012 show will run from March 29th to April 2nd.  As a DDB we have the opportunity to take exclusive use of The Doug Tarry Room at the Timken Centre.  It can be divided into 16-20 booths and includes a small community and entertainment area.  We can make this area the “Place to Be” for show visitors.  So far about 13 downtown businesses, as well as our own DDB, have agreed to be part of this project but we need you to make it a success.  If all booths are reserved the cost can be substantially reduced to $400 from the normal cost of $470.

Idea for our Downtown St. Thomas area include a grand banner entrance that can’t be missed, a music and entertainment schedule, floral displays, free samples of food and beverages from downtown restaurants, special business promotions and lots of give-aways including our famous DDB shopping bags.

But you must act soon!  Please contact Earl Taylor at 519-670-9223 or Sherry Chambers at 519-631-1966 immediately to reserve your space.
