Organization of the Week: Railway City Tourism

In 2013, the city decided it was time to increase tourism services that would be available year-round. This sparked the creation of Railway City Tourism, St. Thomas’s own service organization dedicated solely to providing information, creating and marketing local events, and working with tour groups to engage visitors and keeping people informed of opportunities in the community.
The organization was built from the ground up, lead by the efforts of tourism coordinator Megan Pickersgill. Pickersgill is a St. Thomas native with a museum and economic devel-opment background who returned home from working in Nova Scotia to take on this position. Pickersgill describes the service as “your portal to discover what to see and do in St. Thom-as”. This includes the goings on of our downtown businesses. If you have a special event, sale, or promotion of some sort coming up, Railway City Tourism is happy to assist with marketing that occasion free of charge. Everyone is welcome to contact, be it in person at their office or next time you see their tent out in the city, by calling, emailing, or on one of their many social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter).
